It's National
President Kennedy famously recommended that we "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country".
To make America a better place, I've decided to start with where I live -- Honeyville, Utah.
I recently heard about a simple review of the Constitution of the United States, written for young children by Arthur Stansbury, in a simple question-and-answer form. It's a fantastic way to brush up on the Constitution, and how our government is supposed to work. I strongly recommend this short read to everyone. I guarantee you will learn something and have a greater appreciation for such a sacred document and our Nation. You may even feel motivated to run for local office.
You can read it here. But before you do, a quick note:
This document is titled "Elementary catechism on the Constitution of the United States". So, what is a catechism? I've always thought it had religious connotations, but that's not true although it is often used when speaking about religion. A catechism is an examination, in question-and-answer form, of a subject often compiled into book form. So this is simply a document that examines the Constitution with simple questions and answers.
It's Personal
My ancestors established many of the small towns and what have come to be larger cities in northern Utah. I feel I can honor them by continuing the work they started. As I learn of their work, how they treated their neighbors, and even courageously interfaced with Native Americans, I feel a sense of gratitude for what we have been given. I feel it is my duty to take what we've been delivered, honor it by preserving it, and leave it ready for the future.
Honeyville is already a great place to live – we all know that. I am running for City Council to join the efforts of many individuals, past and present, who serve the community daily.
I know all of the current City Council members, and I have a great respect for each of them and the sacrifices they make as council members. Working with any/all of them would be an honor and a privilege.
There is still a lot of work to do, from renovating the city “Welcome” signs to finding ways to increase city revenues and cut costs. I will work to ensure existing city codes are uniformly enforced going forward, and I pledge to continue the current efforts to clarify existing ordinances.
I humbly ask the citizens of Honeyville for their support and to allow me an opportunity to serve them as we work to make Honeyville the place we want it to be. Send me your questions, ideas, and input via email at Heritage.Forward.Honeyville@gmail.com
